The Oreo Blue Experience: A tribute to Jimi Hendrix

Popular Northwest Arkansas blues and rock band Oreo Blue has just released what may be the first full-length DVD to come out of Northwest Arkansas. The double disc, full length concert DVD movie and audio CD "The Oreo Blue Experience: A Tribute to Jimi Hendrix" was shot live this past February at Dave's on Dickson. The finished product was released earlier this month.

The effort has the Midas touch of many of Northwest Arkansas' most talented. Brian Crowne, sax player for OB acted as producer on the project with Doug Haase taking the reins as executive producer. The video was shot and edited by the masterful Trey Marley and his tribe of cameramen: Blair Cartwright, Josh Irwin, Matt Wolfe and Vinson Carter, with lighting design by the muli-talented Joe Cole and set design by Mel Wood. Local audio folks involved include The Listen Lab and J.J. Harris. Also pitching in were film veteran Jim Borden and well-known graphic artist and designer Tony Porter, who created the cover art. The DVD concert has all the visual qualities of a full blown rock concert. Those who attended the recording and signed the guest book are listed as co-producers in the movie credits.
Oreo Blue is a band chocked full of talent that has sustained its popularity for more than a decade, playing to crowded houses both locally and regionally. Along with Crowne, the band is made up of Gary Hutchison, Rod Williamson and Stephen Boudreaux. Contributing musicians for "The Oreo Blue Experience: A Tribute of Jimi Hendix" include Haase on percussion and vocalist Chris Payton.

Featured songs include Hendrix classics such as Purple Haze, Voodoo Child (Slight Return), Hey Joe and Little Wing along with more obscure songs like Who Knows and Them Changes from the "Band of Gypsies" album. An original solo instrumental tribute by guitarist Gary Hutchison, US, is included along with a never before covered Hendrix song Stratto-Strut. This funk instrumental was featured on the Jimi Hendrix 2000 release "Morning Symphony Ideas."

"The Oreo Blue Experience" is a definite Jimi Hendrix & Oreo Blue fan pleaser capturing the raw energy of a Hendrix show on tape in the unmistakable Oreo Blue style. Available at select music stores and at www.oreoblue.com. The project is officially licensed by The Experience Hendrix LLC with $1 from each unit sold donated to VH1's Save the Music Foundation in Jimi's honor.
