Press Release August 2007

It has been 5 years since the last original Oreo Blue recording. Having released the critically acclaimed DVD/CD, “The Oreo Blue Experience—A Tribute to Jimi Hendrix,” in the interim, the band was more than ready to start writing again. The twist in formula this time around is that band founder and saxophonist, Brian Crowne, is conspicuously missing. Finding their own way, the spectacular guitarist, Gary Hutchison, drummer/vocalist Stephen Boudreaux, and bassist, Rod Williamson, have ventured out as a three-piece act. The result is this new effort, Oreo Blue—The Trio. 13 new original songs written by Gary Hutchison and Stephen Boudreaux showcase each songwriter’s unique tastes and styles. But when delivered to you as Oreo Blue, it still contains that exceptionally original sound that can only be developed over years of performing together. Tracks such as the opener, “Blah Blah, Woof Woof,” hints at Gary’s Hendrix influence and ultimately melds into a shuffle fit for a king. “End of the Line” meters on the funky; “Home Run” is an homage to love and baseball; “Old Before My Time” is a tom-tom driving rationale for staying young even in your old age; “I-540” chronicles traffic frustrations in Northwest Arkansas…or is it a love song? “Sunrise” is a beautiful pen by Gary Hutchison in tribute to his young daughter, but you can find yourself lost in the song for all of your own reasons. And many more… The new Oreo Blue CD is a generous mixture of blues, funk, R&B, rock, and even a tongue-in-cheek country song thrown in for good measure to make it an enjoyable listening journey for everyone.

The CD was recorded, engineered, and mastered at the studios of Dan Robinson in Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA, and was produced by Stephen Boudreaux in his debut effort. Reproduction and distribution by Oasis Disc Manufacturing. Oreo Blue is still first and foremost a live music experience. We are proud to present Oreo Blue—The Trio to you and we look forward to seeing you on the road.

CD Information

Over the course of the past 15 years, Oreo Blue has undergone a few transformations.  But the band always kept true to having that unique sound centered around the interplay between the soulful saxophone of Brian Crowne and the blistering guitar prowess of Gary Hutchison.  Through the last year, Brian Crowne has not only been the identity of the band, but he kept us working and focused on being one of the most professional unsigned bands in the region.  When Brian needed to take leave to focus on his family and business, it left the three of us needing to find our way.  The result is this recording:  Oreo Blue—The Trio.

THE TRIO
Oreo Blue
Indie
Well, we have not heard from these boys lately, so it was a gas to hear the opening blast of four notes from Jimi and then a litany of licks from every rock guitarist except maybe Bo Diddley. Gary Hutchinson has certainly done enough on his own to earn a turn in the rock guitar god hall of fame. Bud Williamson (bass) and Steven Boudreaux (drums and vocals) have conspired with Gary Lee to crank out another ecstatic anthem to the music we all love. Hell, he even throws some jazz riffs off in there. This is all original, but also derivative. They even manage to work a little early Santana style into it. Where would we be if we were not able to build on the foundation laid down by the pioneers? But believe me, this is not to say they do not do any musical exploration of their own; they do, and well. Hell, they even slip in a soupçon of soul and a nod to Santo and Johnny. Recorded, engineered, and mastered at the studio of The Doctor, Dan Robinson in Fayetteville, the album is a great reminder that we have some of the best music this side of Heaven right here in our beloved Altered State. Makes me proud.
