From the January 3, 2004 show at Players
Me and Becca really enjoyed the
show! This show was in a lot more of an intimate setting than before, and Oreo
seemed to enjoy the show just as much as we did. It was nice to meet you
Stephen. Kickass drum solo man! MORE COWBELL! After seeing your kit up close, I
think I am going to modify my setup a little bit. All of the Texarkanarocks
mentions or as the Homey's call them, props, were great.

I have just one word to describe
the performance by Oreo Blue last night...WOW!!! These guys continue to impress
me more and more. They are a complete blues band from the awesome rhythm section
to the unbelievable sax and guitar solos. Great vocals by all the guys too. And
don't let me get started with the humor of this band. The guitar player had me
laughing my ass off on a couple of their songs. And then the final song of the
night, Hey Joe, where he went completely nuts and took off his guitar and
balanced it on one finger above his head and roamed around the stage for a good
minute like this, then Hendrix style, put the guitar in front of his amp doing
all kinds of crazy stuff, and then laid it on the stage and started to hump it
all along the stage. Oh man, you just had to be there to understand how cool it
was. Great, great finale.
Anyways, thanks Stephen for taking the time to talk to me and Brandon during the
break. Also, thank you guys for the little sermon at the end telling people if
they like live music to continue to support the bands in the area, because
without their support the bands wouldn't have any place to play. Mad props
on the mentions of Texarkanarocks.com as well.
I look forward to seeing Oreo Blue the next time you come to Player's. I think I
can say the same for my buddies that I encouraged to come out last night that
have become your newest fans.

I would like to say that Oreo
Blue's show was the best I have seen in Texarkana. The guys "Let it
loose". They can play the blues and not make it sound like a broken record
with each song showing more talent than the one before. I am now a true fan and
I'm looking forward to seeing all of you again.
Tell Gary thanks for the guitar pick!! By the way, I could not help but notice
Oreodrummer you were listening to Tower of Power-excellent choice!! We had a
half-time show at Henderson State as a tribute-very pumping! (Go ahead everyone
and make the One time at band camp jokes...)

Chat comments from TexarkanaRocks.com following Oreo Blue shows (with Wes Jeans) at Players from November 8th, 2003
I said this already under their calender event post. D
A M N !! This is by far the best band I have ever seen here or anywhere
for that
matter. If you didn't make to this show, you missed out in a way that you
couldn't imagine. The most impressive band to me has always been the SNL
band, and I have always wanted to be in the audience at a Sat. Night Live show
because I have heard that during commercials the band goes off. I feel
as though I have been there now. These guys measured up to that kind of
performance. Plus, being as how I used to Play sax. That guy blew me away.
His sound was incredible, hell the whole sound was. Hope to see you guys again
soon!

They are the most complete package band I have ever seen from great front man
to guitar monster when needed to funky bass to impressive drumming with rare and
great sax. The first comment I made to the band during their first break
(when I luckily caught their first show) was "you guys are the best band
that has ever passed through the borders of Texarkana." I was kind of drunk
at the time and questioned my own judgement. It was confirmed the
second time I saw them. I hate to compare bands to each other as one better than
another. They deserve it. They truly are a very high caliber band for
this region of the country.
Oreo Rules! *save room for Wes*

I think that was the best show I've seen Oreo put on at Players and Wes
just added that much more to it. I hope after the 22nd I will be saying the same
about Wes's show cause I am expecting another great one.

Thanx for gettin' my back on this one Sami, I felt me slippin' away on this long
winded post. A real good example though. Last Sat. Dean and I went to
see Oreo Blue and Wes Jeans. I know for a fact word of mouth alone should
have had more people at that show. They were the best band I have ever
heard. They had a very good crowd going, but as always around here, it was
way too small. We didn't show up till about 11:00, and got a parking space
right by the front door. That's not good, a band that good outta have people
standing outside listening just 'cause they wouldn't fit in the place.

Me and Becca really enjoyed Oreo Blue, I was just
disappointed that they weren't black. lol I mean hell, you would expect a Kiss
tribute band to wear
the makeup right? just kiddin' We had a blast and we enjoyed Wes too. We will
definitely catch them again.

The owner says he is never having a big band back at his place again. I hope he
was just frustrated and gets over it. He is now a big fand of Oreo and
Wes and think he will continue to have them but will be hard pressed to have
anyone else. If you read the comments about Oreo (comments were not
inspirational) and Wes (comments were negative) in Gig Reviews then you will
understand why Texarkana has a mountain to climb. When a site is formed with
a chance to promote a scene, and the artists themselves use it like the sole of
their shoe to put out a cigarette.

I know you are a fan now and not slamming you today. I was trying to give an
example of what Texarkana is up against as those posts still exist. I don't
think attendance is the whole story. First, Oreo should draw more
attendance than Wes in this town that is. Although young potential can be a huge
draw,
Oreo has many, many years of experience coupled with a show that might
appeal to more people as Wes' show is more specialized.

professional bands I have ever seen here.

For those who didn't know. The last time Oreo was at Players Gary did the
Hendrix flaming guitar thing and then smashed dam thing.

Well, I got my autographed CD and Wes didn't beat me up too badly. His
bodyguard, now that is a different story . . . Just kidding. Actually, I
wish I had a video of it: We had been talking for about 15 minutes and then I
stuck my hand out and said, "By the way, I'm SmittyG." The look on
Wes'
face was priceless. Oreo Blue is a great blues band and I
enjoyed their show very much. Wes was firing on all cylinders and kicked major
ass up
there. I really like the BB King stuff he did. He displayed a wide range of mood
and style and did it all with exceptional skill. I have to admit, my
earlier review had to be just an off night for the guy cause I could find no
faults in his playing or his presentation tonight. I think anyone who was
there, and there was a very nice crowd there, will agree with me. Everyone
seemed to be having a great time. The other stand out for me was OB's bass
player (sorry, I forgot your name). That guy had a great sound, great feel, and
funk to spare. Most bass players I find to be capable and get the job
done; this guy was inspirational. After posting this, I'll probably have to
practice a few hours just to feel worthy again.
I'm looking forward to catching both Oreo Blue and Wes Jeans when they
make it back to T-town.

I really enjoyed it! I was totally impressed with Oreo Blue. Wes Jeans
was great when he sat in with the band. Got to talk to him for a few minutes,
seemed like a great guy. There was alot of energy in the show. The crowd was
really into it. Great sound as well. What I'm trying to say folks, is it was
good all the way around.

Completely awsome show. Brian is a great front man. I second the "great all
around". They are the complete package. It's great to see older guys
playing
like their still 18 especially Gary (the guitarist). What was that throwing his
leg over the neck of the guitar all about.
They seem to love what they do and believe they would put on a fantastic show
even if there were only 2 people who showed to see them.

This statement sums it up completely for me- If every band had this attitude
we'd all get to see a lot better shows! Oreo & Wes- you guys kick
ass!

Blue
and Wes Satisfied that urge, and saved me a ton of cash on plane tickets. You

to have Oreo back or it will be a big loss for Texarkana.

Oreo Blue and Wes Jeans are both, without a doubt, the best Texarkana has
seen in a long, long time in the field of blues. I tip my hat to them. Maybe
a little time at PLAYERS actually listening to the band would have made you feel
a little less Purple. With what Texarkana has had to offer up as of
late in the band department...I would think that folks from here would enjoy
just a small breath of fresh air. ABOVE and BEYOND all else there were 2 men
playing guitars with thier tongues, on the stage at PLAYERS where else in town
does that happen, Smiles from here!!!!

I am interested in hearing the body count. Looked like more people than have
ever been in that place at one time. I have never seen a flaming guitar or
one broken on stage before in Texarkana. Gary Hutchison unleashed. He
lived up to his name the "Guitar Monster" and Brian Crowne on sax is
unbelivabe
with bass and drums awesome also. And of course 22 yr old Wes Jeans stepped up
for some killer playing too. Absolutely an awsome night!

I have never seen a flaming guitar or one broken on stage before in Texarkana.
We(Fat Chance) are playing at Players tonight, just so we can
outdo the band last night we will not only break and set fire to a guitar but we
will also set fire to Sean our guitar player. No, he doesn't know
this yet and if you tell him it'll probably just make him mad so please kind of
keep this a secret.

forum. I saw alot of trocks people out there. Great band Oreo Blue! I
will definately go see them again if given the chance! There guitar player is
AWESOME!!! Great time, Great sax playing! Enjoyed the hell out of it. Me
and the Deacon were kicked back judging every guitar player there, lol. And to
the Oreo Blue boys, they recieve a thumbs up on my vote!!
****Oh yeah Wes Jeans played the guitar at some point.

Some people still call him a phenom and appears for 4 years now he would not
like for that to be part of his hype. As far as I know not one man has ever
lived up to his youthful hype except Tiger Woods. He is the only one that I know
of. Your right there was no fire from the fingertips, lightning bolts or
levitation. But the kid is pretty solid for 7 years of play up against a man (Gary
of Oreo) who has played some odd 35 years or more. The kid filled in
for Gary recently for a weekend not too bad considering the shoes he was having
to fill. I have to admit I should have shed a lot more light on Oreo (as
if anybody
even paid attention to what I said from the get go). I made it appear Wes was
going to be the show, but at the time of my original post everyone was
slamming cover bands so I left there props out. And thats mostly what Oreo played
the first time was dance covers. After I saw the DVD, I said UH OH.
And it looks like Wes has a new mentor. I'm not a musician so I'm not sure
what more technically he can show and darn how do you top a back up like the
entire Oreo that was behind him. But I do look forward with great
anticipation of his future shows and Oreos as well.

Its killing me you missed the 80 minute Hendrix set. I thought it was the best

Wow, hit a nerve, cool! I want everyone to know that I had a great time at the

best part of the show! I kind of feel sorry for Wes, I wouldn't have wanted to
follow a burning guitar!

I think we are probably a close second on most people ever at players for one
band. Now let the backlash begin. And as far as living up to the hype...
well I guess we will just have to wait and see. Oreo Blue kicked ass they
are a great bunch of guys.

Finally!! Wes Jeans is coming back to Texarkana will blow the plate glass right
out place. He is one of the most killer blues players in the area to
listen to and watch as he puts on a show with Hendrix style. He is coming with
the prospect of working out future bookings, so if Texarkana expects
him to come back we will need to give him a reason although I think Oreo's
draw will already be impressive. He will be opening for Oreo Blue a
top notch band who also put on a onehelluva show with tons of energy and some
great sax that there's not much chance to see around here. I have ordered the
DVD/CD and can't wait for it to get here.
